I know that some people hate jelly shoes, but I’ve always thought they had their place. While I wouldn’t suggest wearing a pair to the office (unless you work at a swim-up desk, and if you do, are you hiring?), a cute pair of jellies at a cookout or beach party is a totally reasonable alternative to a pair of leather shoes that might get ruined or canvas shoes that might get soggy. In context, a jelly can make sense. So why do I want to wear the Salvatore Ferragamo Sunshine Bow Jelly Sandals absolutely everywhere?

This shoe doesn’t even match my personal style, so my obsession (and it is indeed an obsession) makes even less sense than it otherwise might. These shoes are so sparklingly and absolutely feminine that I’d have to buy a whole new dress to go with them, but hey, I could do that. I’ve bought dresses for worse reasons. I’ve worn plenty of pairs of rubber sandals in my life, so I’m not worried about these shoes being particularly uncomfortable because they’re jelly. There’s something about the blush pink color, the thick, gilded heel and the perfect metal bow that just make so much sense together, even if they wouldn’t make much sense on my foot. I’m willing to deal with that for these shoes.

When I think of Ferragamo shoes, I think of one word: classy. My mom often told me tales of buying her first pair of designer shoes once she got her first real-world job in Atlanta, and naturally, they were Ferragamo. They cost $40 back in the day, and she still has them in her closet. A great shoe is forever.

There are a couple of great shoes to be found in the Salvatore Ferragamo Pre-Spring 2013 pre-sale at Moda Operandi, including a couple versions of the metal-trimmed, ankle-strapped wedge above. There are also some truly 90s almost-wedges that I think will be a tad controversial, so you can tell me what you think about those in the comments. I was going to end the day with a review of Miu Miu, but I feel like that collection needs to settle for 24 before I try to say anything halfway intelligent about it. Some design is like that – you have to let yourself become accustomed to it for a little while so that your brain can adjust. Because I have great respect for Miuccia Prada, I’m going to give those shoes the benefit of the doubt (and the benefit of 24 hours of rumination).

So instead, lets talk about one of the collections from Milan that we didn’t have a chance to discuss. (We’ll be going back to pick up more of these lines from the previous Fashion Weeks now that the shows have ended for the season.) Ferragamo Spring 2012 was a show full of strong color and pattern, and these are shoes befitting that aesthetic idea. The straps and heel are bold, but the construction is purposefully slender not only because of the season, but because an overly strong shoe at the end of one of the Ferragamo runway outfits would surely be too much for any woman to pull off. Instead of taking things too far over the top, Ferragamo chose a wisely meager proportion in very bold colors.

This collection constitutes a return to form for Ferragamo that’s both figurative and literal; the company seized the opportunity left by the slightly waning popularity of round-toed stiletto platforms to produce a line of tight, traditional pointed-toe pumps in a palette of textured black and white. These are the kind of shoes that you can wear not only to the office, but also to an upscale bar for drinks afterward and be proud of your footwear choice the entire time. If that’s not a perfect justification for paying top-dollar for footwear, I don’t know what is.
