Victoria Beckham was recently spotted in Paris wearing a fetching pair of pumps from her Fall 2013 runway show. All of her runway shoes were custom designed for the show by Manolo Blahnik this season. That gig used to belong to Christian Louboutin, who created custom CL shoes for VB shows for several seasons, (check out the Christian Louboutin Vicky boots – a collaboration between CL and VB) but Victoria switched to Manolo for her Spring 2013 line and chose to continue the partnership for Fall 2013. Single-sole pumps (which is the confusing industry term for shoes without a platform, even though technically, all shoes have only one sole) have made a comeback to become a full-fledged trend, and I couldn’t be happier, particularly when the shoe has a well-tailored pointed toe. When properly executed, the look is elegant in a totally modern way (but we don’t blame you if you want to add some embellishment). Read More…
We’re currently in something of a golden age of weird shoes. Designers like Charlotte Olympia and Nicholas Kirkwood try adventurous things and, increasingly, are rewarded with both increasing sales and profiles within the industry. Italian powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana also seems keen to get in on the game of bizarre fabulosity – Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2013, for example, has covered its shoes in velvet, gemstones, mini mosaics and occasional flowers. Whether they’re dressing up or down for airport paparazzos, celebs love to flaunt their designer wares. Here’s Hilary Duff at Heathrow Airport, wearing the Laurence Dacade Pete Booties with her leather motorcycle jacket, tee, and jeggings ensemble, and carrying a grey Celine Luggage Tote. Hilary certainly looks like she had a private hair and make-up consultation before exposing herself to the sprawling airport masses, doesn’t she? Read More…
I look forward to Prada’s runway shoes perhaps more than any other every season, and although Spring 2013′s were something of a debacle, I was still full of hope for Prada Fall 2013. Lucky for me (and for shoe lovers everywhere), the collection greeted us with a lineup of classic Prada runway kicks in lots of different variations and a few basic shapes. Read More…
There’s nothing that strikes fear into the hearts of shoe lovers like white suede. Independently, suede shoes and white shoes are difficult enough to keep clean; shoes, after all, do spend an inordinate amount of time on the ground. When those two attributes combine, you’re simply a spilled glass of red wine away from disaster. With as much white space as you find on the Acne Suede Cowboy Boots, your problems increase exponentially. Read More…
Here’s Olivia Wilde on her way to an NYC Valentine’s Day lunch date at ABC Kitchen, right after attending the Calvin Klein Fall 2013 runway show during New York Fashion Week. Naturally, she’s wearing head-to-toe Calvin Klein. Her gilded heels are the Calvin Klein Ankle-Strap Platform Pumps – but don’t get too excited, because sadly, these artfully rendered pumps aren’t available online, and I suspect most available pairs have already made their way into eager hands. Over the last few years, clear shoes have gone from pole dancing essentials to the ultra-feminine Valentino Spring 2013 runway, which is the type of steep, swift ascension known only to Jennifer Hudson and the former prostitute who now shows her lingerie collection at Paris Couture Week. (Google that, I’m not making it up.) (Google that carefully.)
These days, clear shoes come in two varieties (clear heel or clear upper) and seemingly endless aesthetics, all the way from girlish to super-sexy to just plain weird. Read More…
