Victoria Beckham was recently spotted in Paris wearing a fetching pair of pumps from her Fall 2013 runway show. All of her runway shoes were custom designed for the show by Manolo Blahnik this season. That gig used to belong to Christian Louboutin, who created custom CL shoes for VB shows for several seasons, (check out the Christian Louboutin Vicky boots – a collaboration between CL and VB) but Victoria switched to Manolo for her Spring 2013 line and chose to continue the partnership for Fall 2013. These pumps are, of course, too new to be available online, but you can shop an extensive selection of Manolo Blahnik shoes at Neiman Marcus.

While the Beckhams relocated back to the UK just this year, Victoria has already trounced rumors that she’ll be moving her runway shows from NYC to London. (But keep your fingers crossed, London Fashion Week. Her brand is super hot, and we imagine it’d be nice to have it closer to home.)

I’m betting a lot of you guys are currently having the same thought I did when I first laid eyes on the Manolo Blahnik Pacha Pumps – these shoes remind me a lot of the super-popular Christian Louboutin Un Bout Transparant Pumps from almost a year ago. Those shoes have now disappeared from stores and are now fetching tidy sums on eBay, so if you regret passing them up, now’s your chance. Just with Blahniks.

I don’t really blame Manolo for jumping on a trend now that trends are swinging his way. For several years, his refusal to traffic in platforms of any kind excluded him from the ranks of the cool kids. Now that platform stilettos look a bit passé, Blahnik has gotten quite creative with all the opportunities that an expanded audience affords him. Two years ago, I wouldn’t have expected anything this modern from his company; then again, I wouldn’t have expected it from Louboutin two years ago either.

It’s great to see Blahnik go in a youthful direction without sending his whole line into a branding tailspin. The shape is still unmistakably his, but now it just comes in enough finishes and iterations to please everyone from interns buying their first pair of fancy shoes to their super chic grandmothers. It’s quite the achievement for a single brand. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $595.

When looking at the KORS Michael Kors Cyprien Shiny Cork Pump and the Manolo Blahnik BB Polished Cork Pumps, I have a hard time picking a favorite. First things first: what do we all think of cork high heels? Having an all-cork upper and heel is nothing new; both Louboutin and Sam Edelman have done similar pumps in the past. But when you compare the Blahnik and Kors versions, it seems that their only commonality is the cork. Aesthetically speaking, these pumps could not be more different.

Let’s start with the Manolo pump, featured above. The pointed toe and four-inch heel are covered in glazed cork. However, the pump still carries the classic and iconic look that distinguishes itself as a Manolo. The Kors pump, below, has many immediate differences from the Manolo. The Kors version of the cork pump has a one inch platform, a five inch heel, and an almond toe. While both are made of basically the same material, the cork on the Manolo pump is actually a few shades darker.

Getting back to my original question: on the issue of the all-cork pump, I’m neutral. I don’t love them nor do I hate them. Finding the right outfit for these pumps may be tricky, but once you have have something to match, they will probably be a great standout piece.

The prices of the pumps are as different as the design approaches. The Kors pumps will set you back $285 via Neiman Marcus, whereas the Manolos have a hefty price tage of $645 via Neiman Marcus.

For your perusal today, we have my arch nemesis, the unforgivably flawless Miranda Kerr, having a low-key MOM moment…in leather leggings and red Manolo Blahnik BB Suede Pumps. You know, typical MOM stuff. Miranda chose to dress down her BBs here with a color-matching chunky knit cardigan, but this versatile style would look equally classic paired with a holiday party cocktail dress, an office pantsuit – you could even grunge it up with jeans and your oldest, rattiest tee. These bad boys lend a hearty helping of luxe polish to any look.

The wear-with-everything nature of these suede Manolos makes them seem like a no-brainer buy (they’re $595 at Neiman Marcus). If red’s not your fave hue, they’re also available in a wide variety of bold primary colors and basic neutrals. But truth be told, I’ve always been wary of those signature pencil-thin heels. Before the return of the classic pump, Manolo Blahnik’s shoes often felt a bit mature for the fashion market. While the ultra-hip among us were teetering around in six-inch platforms, Blahnik, who refuses to entertain such notions, was still selling pumps hand over fist to clients with more traditional taste and waiting for the pendulum to swing back his way. And swing it did.

Now that Manolos are hip again, Blahnik’s design team seems to be playing a little faster and looser with his design conventions to appeal to a more fashion-forward audience. Mixing prints had been trendy for a while, and anyone who’s tried it knows that finding two prints that clash in just the right way can be difficult. With pink leopard layered over a more subtle red and blue print (in velvet, no less), do the Manolo Blahnik Algona Velvet Ornamental Pumps make it work?

Strangely, perhaps, I think the print-on-print look works really nicely. From a distance, it looks like all one pattern, but up close, the differentiation becomes clear. I love a bit of an illusion, so that’s right up my alley. The crystals, on the other hand, give me a bit of pause. It’s a very Blahnik detail, of course, but I wish it were either more intricate or completely absent – go hard or go home. As it is, though, this is a simple pump that’s anything but simple. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $1075.

Well ladies, I think I’ve found my solution in the Manolo Blahnik Terry Trimmed Driver.

I love the olive-y color (so neutral) and the pop of blue terry which adds that splash of personality I’m always hunting for. Plus, they look so comfy. They are much preppier then the shoes I normally gravitate toward, but maybe that just means I’m growing up. I mean not everything can (or should) be covered in studs or crystals…right?

On Sunday, I had the privilege of accompanying a friend on a celebratory shopping trip and brunch at Barneys. JM (the friend in question) had received a rather big promotion at work a few days prior, and she wanted to commemorate the occasion with her first pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes. Her new title includes the words “vice president,” so a pair of shoes certainly seemed to be in order, and I was excited to go along on the shoe shopping mission, along with our friend Casey. Originally, a pair of cap-toed Manolo pumps was the desired prey.

Casey and I urged JM to try on a few more pairs before she got to her One True Loves, though, because you should always make the most of shoe shopping at Barneys, right? Even though they hadn’t been the impetus for the mission, as soon as JM put on the Manolo Blahnik PP Pumps in aubergine suede, above, all three of us knew that they were going to be the winners. There’s a reason the BBs have been around for so long and in so many colors and materials – they might be the perfect pump.

Try as we might, it’s impossible to totally evaluate a shoe on the Internet. How a shoe looks and feels on the foot is just as important as anything else about it, and as soon as my friend slipped these on, all of us just…knew. It was a magical shoe moment. Nothing says VP like a pair of truly boss shoes, right? These fit that description, and in multiple colors, materials, embellishments and heel heights, there’s probably a pair in the Manolo diaspora to fit your aesthetic. Another great thing? Blahnik doesn’t raise prices nearly as much as most other designers on his level. Buy through Barneys for $595.
