Today, I cannot be subdued. Yes, it’s back in the low 50s in New York City. Yes, a pair of ankle boots would be more appropriate. This far into spring, though, I’m just not interested in the objective reality of the weather. I will wear my spring shoes, including my Loeffler Randall x Tucker Odile Espadrille Sneakers, and there’s nothing that you or Mother Nature or anybody can do about it. I ordered these shoes in January, and I’ve had them in my possession for over a month. They WILL be worn.

Of course, I did get to break them in for a few days last week when spring actually acted like spring for an exceedingly brief moment in time, and now I’m addicted. Shoes like these generally make me a bit nervous, because they need to be worn without socks, which can be a painful experience when it comes to stiff canvas. After my feet warmed them up, though, it’s been a painless experience, unlike pretty much any other pair of canvas sneakers I’ve ever broken in. Not to mention that these are far cuter – the Tucker floral print is pretty without being twee, and the slightly tapered shape of the toe and the espadrille sole make this design unique. Espadrilles, of course, are a huge trend for spring.

I grew up wearing Keds and Converse, so normally, $195 for a pair of canvas sneakers would feel a little silly to me. I’m genuinely impressed with the construction and quality of these shoes, though, and they feel more substantial and well-made than most of their less-expensive canvas counterparts. I’ve been on something of a tear lately, and that tear has been all about boots. I’ve bought moto boots, combat boots, the Dr. Martens from last week. Now that I’ve acquired the Loeffler Randall Felix Booties, though, I think I’m ready to step away from the online shopping. I feel complete.

Printed shoes are something of a personal favorite, and this navy and white pair of lizard-embossed booties fits the bill perfectly. Wearing printed shoes can be tricky, but I consider myself something of a pro. Hi everyone, I’m Hilary. We haven’t met yet, I’m new to the TalkShoes team, and I am SHOE OBSESSED. I can wax on and on about what makes a shoe good for paragraphs. I promise not to bore you like that, though.

Full disclosure: I have been a shoe-a-holic since I was just a kid. I even lied to my mom that my feet had grown and my sneakers were too small just to get a new pair. Suede isn’t an intuitive fabric for a sandal, but the punchy red-orange color ensures that even though this shoe is a little less bare than many in the same genre, it feels no less season-appropriate.

Although the heel stands at a little over four inches, the inch-tall covered platform and sturdy wooden wedge make this the kind of shoe that heel lovers should be able to wear all day on the weekends. I’ve been mulling my various rain boot choices over the past couple of months, and although I’m a big fan of Hunters, so is everyone else. I also like the surprisingly low-priced Givenchy iteration, but I was thinking that, shock of shocks, I might want something other than black. Functional duality is a difficult thing to create in any sector of fashion, but it’s particularly hard when designing an object that requires as much structural integrity as a shoe. Few shoemakers try it, and even fewer do it well. Most of those who do are high-concept brands whose wares aren’t necessarily meant for mass retail consumption or day-to-day use, which makes it even more impressive that the Loeffler Randall Mallory Metal Tip Zip-Off Boot exists.

Usually when one thing can successfully serve two purposes, one of those purposes suffers to some extent. Surprisingly, that doesn’t appear to be the case with these boots. Both the full shaft and ankle boot versions are well-cut and sleek, and the preponderance of zipper embellishments in recent fall looks ensures that the mechanism for changing the boot from one shape to the other doesn’t look too out-of-place.
