Jimmy Choo Dalia Boots

It’s Friday, and you know what that means: time to take a look at a pair of crazypants shoes in this week’s installment of Fill in the Blank. Today, it’s the Jimmy Choo Dalia Fringed Suede Boots, and…I don’t really even know where to begin. We did a FITB with the matching Choo bag over at PurseBlog a little while ago, and I have to say that the boots are a little bit better! Read More…

I love when resort items start to arrive for pre-order online. As much as I personally prefer the type of dressing that cold weather requires, there’s just something so jubilant and lively about spring footwear, and resort is often springier than spring itself. Originally, resort was meant to clothe and shod the well-heeled on their tropical winter vacations, but now it’s just the first sentinel of the next part of the dressing cycle; the red-breasted robin of the fashion industry. I love a jeweled pair of Miu Miu shoes as much as anybody. Not only do I own a pair of Miu Miu jeweled oxfords, but they’re probably the pair of shoes in my closet that gets the most compliments – women, gays, even straight men spontaneously tell me how great they are all the time. The key to their greatness is that the little crystals on the back of the shoe are unexpected – it’s a smart, playful touch on an otherwise workhorse shoe. Read More…

What do you get when you mix a top-rated shoe designer with a contemporary visual artist? Apparently, you get the Jimmy Choo x Rob Pruitt Tickle Printed Leather Mules heels, would you expect anything less than a clash of vibrant colors and exotic animal prints. Any shoe buff knows that Jimmy Choo’s shoes are not simply a shoe, but an example of vivid imagination expressed through shoes. Read More…

Nicholas Kirkwood gets a little crazy from time to time, and we (the Royal “We.” “We” when it really means “I.”) love him for it. Huge fashion houses like Fendi, who had Kirkwood design its Spring 2013 runway shoes, apparently also love him for it. Kirkwood still does what seemingly amounts to a dozen other collaborations a year, many of them with small brands, and his runway shoes for Erdem have always been my favorites. Read More…

Because we’re off at New York Fashion Week shows through the weekend and into next week, it only felt right that we choose a runway show for this week’s iteration of Fill in the Blank. After all, runway shoes are the most directional of the season, and that means they’re often the most eye-catching, daring and straight-up bizarre. All things that we love in a shoe, of course. Generally, I follow the advice of of the legendary Diane Vreeland: you need a little bit of bad taste every now and then. It’s what makes fashion fun and it’s what makes personal style personal – if everyone just wore things that society at large agreed were appropriate or acceptable, everyone would look exactly the same. In modern dressing, it’s often the note of bad taste that makes the outfit. Read More…

Well, first of all, the Edmundo Castillo Chad Suede Booties have mad profile. They have profile in spades. Shoes are a piece of clothing that can be seen no matter the position of the wearer, and they have to be designed to be viewed from all angles. That’s fairly unique in the accessories world – jewelry and handbags generally have one section or side that’s seen far more often than the others, which provides an easy focal point for design.
