Normally I can get behind anything that Comme des Garcons and its visionary creative director Rei Kawakubo might want to do, but I here I sit in front of the Comme des Garcons Dr. Martens Mary Janes, nothing if not confused.

Normally, a pair of Dr. Martens mary janes cost between $90-$110 depending on the specific style, according to the brand’s website. And these shoes here actually bare the branding of the British bootmakers, and yet their price is three times that of any similar shoe I can find on its site. So how exactly did Comme make these shoes worth three times their normal price?

The Comme des Garcons Covered Lace-Up Loafers are the kind of shoes that I tend to like but that many women tend to entirely ignore. They’re strongly masculine and modern, with little in the way of a nod toward femininity or traditional prettiness of any kind.
