When I first saw the Christian Louboutin Chelita Metal Wingtip Ankle Boots at the Christian Louboutin Fall 2012 preview, I immediately knew how I felt: I loved them. We’ve talked previously about my somewhat precarious relationship with cowboy boots and their cultural context, but I can’t get enough of these shoes. They look like a particularly chic cowgirl stumbled into a particularly chic downtown party, and these shoes were what resulted. Read More…
Generally, I follow the advice of of the legendary Diane Vreeland: you need a little bit of bad taste every now and then. It’s what makes fashion fun and it’s what makes personal style personal – if everyone just wore things that society at large agreed were appropriate or acceptable, everyone would look exactly the same. In modern dressing, it’s often the note of bad taste that makes the outfit. Read More…
Last week, I said that a pair of Pierre Hardy shoes looked like science to me. I still stand behind that sentiment as being accurate, but now, I’ve found a pair of shoes about which it’s even more accurate: the Christian Louboutin Lady Peep Geek Pumps. You guys are smart, so I bet you can guess exactly why that is. Read More…
Someone mark it down on the calendar: Today, August 14, 2012, I found a pair of Christian Louboutin Daffodils that I like. I’m generally quite a Louboutin fan, but the appeal of the Daffodils has always eluded me. The enormous platform and spindly stiletto have always seemed so off-balance and graceless, not only in the design but also in the actual, functional utilization of the shoe. Read More…
So many pieces of Christian Louboutin’s extensive shoe collection could be described as requiring a shameless wearer that I’m honestly surprised it took the brand this long to name a pair just that. I’m also surprised that the pair that finally earned that name is as sedate as the Christian Louboutin Shameless Pumps.
They’re like the (in)famous Daffodils, but with a peep toe like the Highness and a thicker heel. Read More…
A few months ago, the fashion world was abuzz over the news that Christian Louboutin would design a fantasy version of Cinderella’s glass slipper in conjunction with Disney’s DVD release of the classic animated film on Blu-Ray later this year. Now that buzz has come to fruition: Yesterday, Disney and Louboutin unveiled the shoes in Paris. Want to buy yourself a pair? Read More…
Christian Louboutin’s 20th Anniversary Collection just keeps on going, and now there’s a new place to shop it online: NeimanMarcus.com. It’s the best assortment of the special capsule collection that I’ve found yet, and notably, it includes my favorite shoe from the line: the Christian Louboutin Pensee Mary Jane Flower Pumps in mirrored silver leather.
These aren’t Louboutin’s most daring shoes, and they’re certainly not his tallest, but something about the bold, graphic tonal flower attached to the smart Mary Jane pump captures the brand’s whimsy and irreverence so perfectly. Read More…
Not long ago, we examined a pair of Christian Louboutin superplatforms that had a decidedly Scottish tartan bent. The brand also refers to the print on the Christian Louboutin Jenny 150 Slingbacks as “tartan,” but something about the colors, or perhaps the scale of the print, makes “plaid” feel like the more appropriate word. Even if this pattern does have an association with a Scottish clan, it just feels so…American. Read More…
