But really, where would you wear the Charlotte Olympia Gigi Wedge Sandals? Besides fashion week, of course. I’d honestly like to know. Usually I can look at a pair of shoes and immediately imagine them in a context where they’d make sense, particularly if it’s a pair of shoes I like. And I like these wedges! I really do. I just don’t think I understand them. Read More…
Yes. Yes it is. That’s a poodle. A poodle for a heel.
The Charlotte Olympia Cherie Poodle Heel Platform Sandal (see, it’s right there in the name) takes designer Charlotte Dellal’s penchant for using everything from bird cages to garden lattices for heels and ratchets it up to the next level. Now, a little resin dog is there to provide the wearer with several extra inches of height on top of the several extra layers of kitsch. Read More…
With the outpouring of love and support in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy over the past two months, I thought it’d be appropriate to find a shoe that represents the kind actions of others in the wake of the storm. The Love Me heart-appliqued suede pump by Charlotte Olympia does just this. I’m a Staten Island native, and during the ongoing cleanup, I have heard stories of hardship and seen destruction in my hometown that have affected my outlook on life. Read More…
I’m always a fan of Charlotte Olympia, but in the past few weeks, as Resort 2013 has started to show up at online retailers for pre-order, I’ve felt myself become downright obsessed. Perhaps the designer’s irreverent, highly detailed designs just naturally fit well with the renewal and liveliness of spring, or maybe we’re watching Charlotte Delal mature as a young designer before our very eyes. If there’s one thing at which Charlotte Olympia excels, it’s embellishment. Designer Charlotte Delal has been using a group of basic shoe shapes for her line more or less since it got started, but it’s what she does when you get above the structure that makes her ideas unique; you probably all recognize the shrunken platform of the Charlotte Olympia Botanica Sandals from plenty of Charlotte’s other shoes, but it’s also not what you’re looking at when the design comes in to view. In case you hadn’t heard, this year marks the 111th anniversary of Bergdorf Goodman, the granddaddy of all New York City luxury shopping meccas. It may seem like an odd anniversary to celebrate, but when you consider that the store’s slogan is “Only One, Only New York,” celebrating such a singular anniversary makes a lot of sense. Luckily for all of us, Bergdorfs has invited a lot of its favorite designers to create limited edition pieces for the anniversary, including this pair of Charlotte Olympia Anniversary Embroidered Wedge Sandals. The last time we discussed a pair of Charlotte Olympia garden-printed pumps, I wasn’t all that excited because I didn’t think that the shoe went quite far enough in embracing its theme. Because of Charlotte Olympia’s reputation for being bold and literal in her designs, anything less than that feels a little bit like cheating. With the new Charlotte Olympia Flora Printed Pumps, on the other hand, it’s flowers on flower on flowers – just like it should be. Read More…
You can always spot a Charlotte Olympia shoe a mile away. Even when a design doesn’t have Olympia’s signature shrunken platform, the brand’s designs are so distinctive, it’s aesthetic so clear, that the presence of that signature isn’t always necessary. In the case of the Charlotte Olympia Bruce Sandals, it’s the little leopard heads on the shoes’ vamp that give it away, even though Olympia has never used this specific motif before.
