Burberry Rubber Wellington Boots, $395 via Net-a-Porter

Sometimes, life necessitates that you wear a rain boot when you really, truly don’t want to be wearing one. A job interview? A date? An afternoon of high-end shopping? Sometimes you want to look just so, and wearing giant rubber boots that look at home on the farm screws all of that up before you even get out the door.

Thankfully, wellies have had something of a renaissance over the past few years. New colors, new styles, new materials – suddenly, staying dry doesn’t have to make you feel like you’re down on the farm anymore. The Burberry Rubber Wellington Boots are just the latest continuation of that trend. When I first saw them, I didn’t even think they were rain boots.

Burberry Milford Raffia Sandals, $695. Burberry Verulam Beaded Sandals, $795. Both via Net-a-Porter.

All the talk that the fashion world has been doing about the return of the non-platform pump still didn’t stop most brands from making a few for Resort 2012. Burberry in particular is still enthusiastic about the shape, with both the Burberry Milford Raffia and Leather Sandals and the Burberry Verulam Beaded Sandals hitting online retail at the same time. Is anyone else starting to feel major fatigue on shoes that look like these?

You guys, it’s the last Friday of summer. Of arbitrary New York summer, anyway – Labor Day may mean something here, but I know that back home in Atlanta and throughout the rest of the South, the summer weather isn’t going to let up until the end of next month.

Because of that, let’s do something fun. We haven’t had a Fill in the Blank in a while, and I think that the Burberry Suede and Canvas Platforms are a good candidate for discussion. Finish the sentence in the comments, or buy these shoes via Net-a-Porter for $850.

Burberry Explorer Biker Boots, $895 via Net-a-Porter. Jeffrey Campbell Brit Wrap Strap Boots, $230 via ShopBop

The return of tough, black, flat-soled leather boots warm the cockles of my little ex-teenage-punk heart. I do not simply want a pair of these boots, I want all of the pairs. In fact, I already have one pair of great, grungy BedStu boots waiting for winter, and I’m going to be adding more pairs as soon as possible.

If you feel me on the whole tough-girl-boots thing, then I’ve got a Look for Less for you – the Burberry Explorer Biker Boots and the Jeffrey Campbell Brit Wrap Strap Boots, both of which will add a note of grunge to your casual fall wardrobe. And I mean “grunge” in a good way.

Something wicked this way comes from Burberry

by

The shoes and accessories that Burberry showed at its Spring 2011 presentation received just as much criticism from the fashion press as the clothes themselves received praise, and now that those shoes and accessories are finding their way to retail and proliferating across the Internet in stock images, I’m still confused about what went into designing things like the Burberry Prorsum Patent Leather Platform Pumps.

I know that seasonal climates are often only incidentally acknowledged by designers creating looks for the runway, but the inclusion of a black patent closed-toe choked pump for spring seems a bit out of place. Actually, it seems a lot out of place, although if the overall design was better, maybe I’d be less inclined to notice.

What shoes do you wear to the airport?

by

On the way back from a recent trip to New York City, I waited at LaGuardia for my flight home to Atlanta next to a woman wearing the Burberry Platform Biker Boots that I love so much. After I forced myself to stop staring at her in unmitigated shoe-envy and restrained myself from tapping her on the shoulder to talk about her boots, I remembered that I was sitting in an airport, waiting to board a plane to yet another airport, one which is so big that I’ve nearly missed flights out of Atlanta because it takes so long to hoof it from security to your freaking gate, which is always the last one on the concourse, always. Wearing heels in that situation struck me as brave, to say the least.

And then I looked down at my own feet, shod in Havaianas flip flops for convenience and ease of security screening, and I wondered if maybe I was the crazy person after all. And then last week, watching four cast members of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills hike through LAX atop towering platform stilettos made me wonder – what shoes do tried-and-true shoe lovers wear to travel? A chic flat? Anything that can be taken on and off easily? Or do you go all-out and wear whatever shoe strikes you as the most fabulous in your collection that day? This Burberry boot, of course, can be purchased for $1095 via Neiman Marcus.

Burberry makes me reconsider studs

by

I would have had no hesitation about the Burberry Mega Stud Platform Sandal, had it come out about a year ago. It would have seemed current and fresh, and I wouldn’t have been sick of studs yet by that point. I’m kind of sick of them now, but is this pair of shoes interesting enough to pass my test anyway? It might be.

On the one hand, the huge scale of these studs (and the use of rounded as well as pyramid shapes) makes them seem a tiny bit more current than their tiny, silver counterparts. Matte black is a color that should be used more often in fashion (so says me, anyway), and its use here is well-executed. At the same time, though, might they be a little too big?

I’m always slow to give anything a superlative like “best” because I’m usually sure that something will come along that will be better and I’ll have to eat my words and backtrack. Plus, if you say it too many times, the term loses its very finite meaning. That being said, the Burberry Prorsum Shearling Ankle Bootes may in fact be the best shoes of the season.

This design was the talk of London Fashion Week back when it hit the runway, and for shoes to garner so much attention at an event that usually focuses more on ready-to-wear is unusual and worth noting. In my ever so humble opinion, the fashion bigwigs got this one right: these boots embody the feel and trends of Fall/Winter 2010 better than any other that I’ve seen so far.

Well, except for the very tall heel. And the big platform. Those might somewhat inhibit your ability to fight for your life. But other than that, the Burberry Biker Platform Ankle Boots are totally made to wage war.

If the war you’re waging is on boring shoes, that is. These boots are possibly my favorite of the motorcycle trend so far, mostly because they eschew traditional silver hardware in favor of tonal black and a more futuristic feel. The lines of this shoe feel clean and modern instead of a throwback to a utilitarian past, which is to the immense credit of the designer.

I’m trying really hard to understand these shoes. Trying really hard. But I just do not understand the idea behind these shoes. There are large massive amounts of open spaces. And then there are laces, in the center of the shoe. By themselves. And an ankle strap. These are the Burberry Lace-Up Flat Sandals, a complete and total miscommunication between Burberry and fashionable shoes.

I don’t think I’m alone in saying that these are totally wrong, on so many accounts.
