Charlotte Olympia Desiree Haircalf Pumps

We spend a lot of time discussing Charlotte Olympia around these parts, and it’s for one very good reason: Charlotte Dellal makes crazy footwear that’s interesting to look at, and she always manages to come up with some sort of humorous twist or detail that I can’t resist. For $800 and up, I better be entertained. Today, though, her unexpected twist is the complete exclusion of a platform from a pair of her heels. Read More…

Saint Laurent Striped Suede and Leather Sandals

Last week, we discussed the first shoes that Saint Laurent has released to retail under the guidance of new creative director Hedi Slimane. Slimane seemed intent on rebuilding the brand’s aesthetic from the ground up, and naturally, that meant assembling a strong stable of basics to establish the lines and proportions with which the brand would work to create more adventurous and exciting footwear. Low-Wedge Sandals

If you hate kitten heels, get ready for a new type of trendy shoe that will probably make you angry: the low-wedge sandal. Now that resort collections have fully arrived and spring is starting to trickle on to retail sites for pre-order, we’re getting a fuller picture of which trends have translated from runways and previews to actual store shelves, and it looks like at least some buyers are banking on the fact that you’re sick of teetering around all summer in six-inch wedges. Charlotte Olympia Gigi Wedge Sandal

But really, where would you wear the Charlotte Olympia Gigi Wedge Sandals? Besides fashion week, of course. I’d honestly like to know. I just don’t think I understand them. Read More…

Jimmy Choo Mogul Tall Cage Gladiator Boots

Knee-high gladiator sandals (or cage boots, or whatever you want to call them) aren’t exactly a new invention, but they do seem to have a bigger presence on the luxury shoe market this season than they’ve ever had before. There are all kinds of versions, from flat, brown, leather sandals that you could potentially see actual gladiators having worn, to…well, to the Jimmy Choo Mogul Tall Cage Gladiator Boots. Manolo Blahnik Pacha Pumps Silver

I’m betting a lot of you guys are currently having the same thought I did when I first laid eyes on the Manolo Blahnik Pacha Pumps – these shoes remind me a lot of the super-popular Christian Louboutin Un Bout Transparant Pumps from almost a year ago. Those shoes have now disappeared from stores and are now fetching tidy sums on eBay, so if you regret passing them up, now’s your chance. Read More…

Saint Laurent Shoes

We recently discussed how Hedi Slimane’s arrival at Saint Laurent has changed the brand’s popular existing shoes, but now the other shoe has dropped, both literally and figuratively. Slimane’s first original women’s shoe collection for Saint Laurent has begun to arrive at Barneys, and he’s setting the aesthetic tone for his reign with a tightly edited group of pumps, ankle boots and flats. 2013 Golden Globes Shoes

Trying to write about shoes after an awards show is so frustrating. With bags and jewels, at least you can see them in still photos and try to divine where exactly they came from. With shoes, almost everyone’s are hidden by long gowns for the entirety of the red carpet walk. Won’t they think of the shoe people? Most of what’s going on under there is incredible, if simply by virtue of the necessity of six inches of extra height to carry off a couture gown, and we’d like to see it. Read More…
