Every time New York Fashion Week rolls around, I wait with bated breath for the shoes at Marchesa. The reason for that, of course, is that it’s none other than Christian Louboutin who’s behind those shoes every season, and at the Marchesa show, we get something of a sneak peek at where his collection’s going for the season. The embellishments, colors and materials are tailored to the Marchesa clothing, but the shapes and structures are generally those seen throughout the Louboutin line.
Notably, for Christian Louboutin x Marchesa Fall 2013, there were no platforms. There will be some in Louboutin’s full collection, of course, but trends are tending toward single-sole options, and it seems as though a number of the designer’s seasonal pieces will bow to the demand for those shapes from consumers. The trend for minimal strappy sandals is also apparent, although the versions done in velvet and metallic leathers for Marchesa probably aren’t the most minimal ones you’ll see. My favorites, though, are the embroidered mesh booties. I feel as though the reasons are obvious.
