As you all know, I’m a huge fan of Nicholas Kirkwood and more or less everything he does. The details of his work are some of the most meticulous in the industry, and not only does he design a great avant-garde shoe, but his basics are pristine as well. With that in mind, the Nicholas Kirkwood Rabbit-Lined Feather and Suede Boots are like the exception that proves the rule – a design I hate that reminds me how much I love all of Kirkwood’s other shoes. Seriously, fuzzy feather leg boots? Et tu, Kirkwood?

No matter how much I dislike this design, Kirkwood still employs his signature attention to detail in making it come to life. The exterior is crafted of lightweight black feathers, which should be enough fluff for anyone, but on the inside, Kirkwood treats the wearer to an extra bit of luxury in a rabbit fur lining. These boots may be a little hard on my eyes, but they’ll be soft on your feet. The heel, too, is a nice flourish – gold provides a nice flourish where black suede would have been perfectly adequate and likely cheaper for the brand to use. I love Kirkwood, I just don’t love these boots. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $2995.

The outside should have been just black suede with the gold heel. I like the buckle at the top of the boot, too. But the feathers are a bit odd, and I love feathers.
