As much as I love bold designs, bright colors and fashion fearlessness in general (and in particular when it comes to footwear), I took one look at the Brian Atwood Hamper Elaphe Pumps on the Net-a-Porter new arrivals page yesterday and couldn’t help but think, “Wow, are we still doing that?” Not that the “we” should really matter to any particular person when picking pieces that you love, of course, but colorblocking has been so saturated for what feels like at least a solid year, maybe longer, that can’t we give it a rest?

Anything can get tired once it reaches critical mass, and the number of bright red skinny jeans being sold at nearly any price point for the past year indicates that colorblocking has done just that. It’ll get another go-around in a few years, I’m sure, but for now, mixing textures and thoughtful prints both seem a lot more interesting. This design takes at least a small step in that direction by using elaphe snakeskin instead of flat leather, but it’s not quite enough for these shoes to feel fresh. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $915.

Color blocking is fun for the spring. But for the fall you need more sophisticated fashion.

I wouldn’t say that I’m sick of it, just not head over heels about colour blocking right now. I too am more about texture as of late =)
