At the PurseBlog/TalkShoes offices, most of us have officially reached the point where we’re not only sick of our summer shoes, but also sick of looking at, thinking about and shopping for summer shoes. Mark it down, ladies – it’s officially time for us to mentally (if not physically – it’s still hotter ‘an hell outside, as my southern compatriots would say) move on to fall footwear. First on my mind? Motorcycle boots.

I own and am very happy with a relatively affordable pair of Jeffrey Campbells that I wore all of last fall and winter (which are still available, if you’re looking for a pair under $250), but because I wore them so much last year, I’m looking to add another pair to my arsenal. My first lust object of the season? The Rag + Bone Flat Moto Boot, a personal favorite of our marketing director Hilary.

These were shoes clearly designed with a city girl in mind. Hardy, dark, flat-soled boots that are intended to be the wearer’s outer shell up to her calves, far enough to keep out the everyday muck and grime that walking in New York City requires you to deal with. The longer I live in the city and take public transportation, the more I gravitate toward this kind of footwear; ignorance was bliss when I first moved, but now that I’m intimately aware of what’s on our sidewalks, nothing less than a protective layer of Rag + Bone will do. For her part, Hilary agrees – she’s had her pair since last year, and she says they only get better with age. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $595.
