Ugly as sin. Yeah, I said it.
I can see the appeal in most footwear trends, even if they’re not things I’d wear personally. As a critic, you have to be willing to expand your willingness to consider the merit in things outside of your own personal taste, and I take that seriously. I’d never give something a bad review just because I wouldn’t wear it; that’s not a design flaw, in and of itself.
That being said, I just don’t get creepers. I didn’t get them when Prada did it, I don’t get the 3.1 Phillip Lim Wallace Monk Strap Brogues, and I don’t like the Chanel creepers that are coming out for Resort 2013. Those are three brands that I normally adore, particularly Prada and Phillip Lim, and I just can’t see the appeal in the entire enterprise. They are, by definition, ugly shoes. Generally I think there’s some beauty to be found in that, but not this time. Agree? Disagree? Play Fill in the Blank with me in the comments, or if you must, these shoes can be purchased at Net-a-Porter for $525.
