Not long ago, we examined a pair of Christian Louboutin superplatforms that had a decidedly Scottish tartan bent. The brand also refers to the print on the Christian Louboutin Jenny 150 Slingbacks as “tartan,” but something about the colors, or perhaps the scale of the print, makes “plaid” feel like the more appropriate word. Even if this pattern does have an association with a Scottish clan, it just feels so…American.
As American as Daisy Duke, in fact. The knot detail on the toe reminds me of how the fictional vamp used to tie her shirts, and if Jessica Simpson were to shoot her Dukes of Hazzard reboot today, I’d bet that these shoes would figure in at some point. They’re just too appropriate not to.
Can you think of anything to pair these slingbacks with other than a pair of well-worn cutoffs? Because I can’t. Not that stilettos and jean shorts is my favorite look ever, of course, but because these shoes seem so tailor-made for that specific purpose that it’s hard for me to see them any other way. Perhaps I could also see them as a cheeky addition to a pair of crisp white cigarette pants, but come on. These shoes really need a pair of cutoffs. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $945.
