Not long ago, we discussed a pair of baffling Balmain sandals that cost $1500 and I admitted that I am slow to spend more than $200 or so on a pair of summer flats. They just don’t feel as expensive to me, no matter what they are and no matter how expensive they might have been to make. Since then, I’ve been on the lookout for a relatively inexpensive option that captures the same look and feel, and I think I’ve found it.
Although the Balmain sandals maybe have been black leather, they carried a ton of worn gold hardware which reminds me very much of the color of the Donald J. Pliner Toe Ring Sandals, which is balanced by a black footbed. The biggest difference? This pair will only set you back $198.
If you’re someone who tends to gravitate toward black even when it’s warm outside, this pair of sandals might actually be a must-have. They’ll still match your outfit, but the warm gold tone of the leather will provide what might be a much-needed spark of color while still functioning is a neutral. Because Pliner’s line is known for providing comfort, you can bet that these will be a little kinder to your feet than most hard-as-a-rock summer sandals. I might just order myself a pair to try them out! Buy through Neiman Marcus for $198.
