Hat tip to our compatriots over at Jezebel for noticing a blatant knockoff in our midst – Jessica Simpson‘s uber successful low-priced shoe line has apparently taken quite a shine to the Christian Louboutin Straratata Pump, originally released in 2010. As Jezebel’s Jenna Sauers points out, the shoes aren’t just any “inspired” version – the Jessica Simpson Evangela Sandals take the shoe detail for detail, down to the suede-covered buckle, omitting only the red sole.
The Louboutins, of course, cost just shy of $995 when they came out and they nearly immediately disappeared from shops, recreated in later seasons in a variety of colorways. The colors aren’t exact matches and the straps are a little wider, but everything is so close that it’s incredibly tacky.
I normally don’t mind an “inspired” version – style needs to be available at every price level, and Ms. Simpson’s shoes are obviously beloved by lots and lots of customers. Still, I would hope that whoever was in charge of creating this shoe would have at least put his or her own flair on the finished product. That doesn’t seem to be the case, which bothers me. I hate it when mediocrity wins out in any form. If you’re so inclined, the Jessica Simpson shoe can be had through Zappos for $98.
