Burberry’s wellies don’t look anything like rain boots

Burberry Rubber Wellington Boots, $395 via Net-a-Porter
Sometimes, life necessitates that you wear a rain boot when you really, truly don’t want to be wearing one. A job interview? A date? An afternoon of high-end shopping? Sometimes you want to look just so, and wearing giant rubber boots that look at home on the farm screws all of that up before you even get out the door.
Thankfully, wellies have had something of a renaissance over the past few years. New colors, new styles, new materials – suddenly, staying dry doesn’t have to make you feel like you’re down on the farm anymore. The Burberry Rubber Wellington Boots are just the latest continuation of that trend. When I first saw them, I didn’t even think they were rain boots.
The key reason why these wellies do such a good job passing for regular boots is because of the brown leather trim at the top. You see that and automatically assume that what you’re looking at is a regular leather equestrian boot, particularly because the black leather on those styles is always smooth and lacks a noticeable grain. What you don’t immediately notice, though, is that the leather has been traded for matte black rubber and a lug sole, which will keep you try and upright even in truly inclement conditions. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $395.
