Bally gives us a very classy spring take on the traditional brogue

If there’s one footwear trend from the last few seasons that I have to choose as my favorite, it would definitely be the advent of menswear shapes to the womenswear side of the market. (A close second place would be the death of the platform stiletto.) Brogues, oxfords, loafers – versions of those ideas, both high heeled and low, have given the footwear business a huge injection of creativity.
Naturally, though, it gets a little bit difficult to do menswear for women once the temperatures rise. The temptation of a zillion sandals in all shapes and sizes and colors is just too great. With a shoe like the Bally Oasis Perforated Leather Brogues, though, designers might just be able to lure a few women away from their trusty espadrilles.
The key to finding summer appeal in close shoes, of course, is ventilation. The perforated leather (which I usually hate but which works in this context) and open toe make the design feel a bit less constrictive, and the ivory tone of most of the shoe’s material is well-suited to spring wear. With the tan accents, I could see this shoe looking very smart at the end of a pair of extremely well-tailored navy cigarette pants. You could wear the design under wide leg trousers, of course, but don’t you want to show off the shoe? Buy through Net-a-Porter for $850.
