Lanvin Watersnake Wooden Wedges, $1150 via Net-a-Porter

Ever since Chanel showed clogs for Spring 2010 (that seems so long ago now!), wood-soled shoes have experienced an enormous fashion revival. In fact, I can barely think of a brand that hasn’t experimented with the construction (maybe Alexander Wang?), and designers have expanded on the idea to include towering, 70s-inspired wedges a la the Lanvin Watersnake Wooden Wedge. In fact, with wedges making an even bigger surge for spring than they usually do, this shoe is very much indicative of what we can expect on store shelves once warm weather starts to sneak closer.

If you don’t favor the BIG WALL OF WOOD look, hey, maybe sit out this season. Seriously, enormously chunky wedges are going to be everywhere and many of them are going to be wood or, at the very least, wood-esque. It makes for a very bold look in any material or color, and the sedate tan leather and natural snakeskin straps of this Lanvin pair represent a fairly subtle variation on the theme. About as subtle as a heart attack. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1150.

While the spring/summer collections offer a multitude of wedges, some wood some not, there are many other options. I just do not feel stylish or cute with a big block of clunky wood strapped to my feet.

I am such a sucker for large wedges, and these are no exception. Although, I’m not feeling the snakeskin vamp.
