Jimmy Choo Denton Neoprene Sandals, $795 via Net-a-Porter

High-end wetsuit sandals? Sure, why not.

At this point, the Jimmy Choo Denton Neoprene Sandals don’t even register on the list of weird things that Choo has done to perfectly serviceable pairs of shoes. In fact, for someone with a very sleek, modern, even futuristic personal style, these shoes might be a fairly decent basic black heel. That’s where footwear design is these days: wetsuit high heels seem like A Thing That Obviously Exists.

Personally, I find the execution of these shoes to be a little bit too literal – the black neoprene with pink trim, the heavy tonal zipper running up the front. It’s all very, “look at me, I’m a sexy wet suit for your feet!” Neoprene is a great, lightweight material with an interesting texture and the ability to hold very vivid color, so I wish that Choo had resisted the urge to go with the obvious. In the grand scheme of things that have come out of the company in the last few years though, this design is actually relatively benign. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $795.
