It’s very difficult to find Look for Less options for Charlotte Olympia’s stellar lineup of platforms and smoking flats; almost all of designer Charlotte Delal’s pieces are embellished with enough signature quirk that it takes most mid-range comparisons off the table. That’s why I was so excited to see the Marc by Marc Jacobs Cherry Embellished Suede Sandals; they’re not a total dead ringer, but the look is very similar to that of the Charlotte Olympia Arlena Cameo Sandals.

The main attraction of the Marc by Marc Jacobs pair, of course, is that it’s a thousand dollars less expensive than the Charlotte Olympia option, which have been a favorite of editors and “fashion people” the world over. They come in a bunch of different color and embellishment options, and I could have sworn that I’ve seen a version that included a glossy gold heel like that of the MbMJ shoes. Even if I’m mistaken, though, the platforms, chunky heel, contrasting colors and textures and rhinestone detail at the toe all make for a convincing alternative. You know, just in case your shoe budget didn’t call for a pair of $1300 rhinestone-studded platforms with a face on them. Buy the Marc by Marc Jacobs option via Net-a-Porter for $395 or the Charlotte Olympia option via Neiman Marcus for $1365.
