If you’ve read through some of the backlog of posts in the few days since we launched TalkShoes (and if you have, thank you!), you’ve probably noticed that I’m sort of partial to weird shoes. I like my footwear to be fantastical and over-the-top, and usually, the more of those two attributes a shoe has, the better.
Well, I think I’ve met my match. The Givenchy Sequined Nappa Boots are, as Tim Gunn would so correctly say, a lot of look. I kind of respect the fact that they’re so unapologetically loud, but I’m not sure if a sense of respect for their chutzpah is enough to make me actually like them as shoes. But maybe it is.
Not only are they hot pink, but they’re totally covered in hot pink sequins, some of which are shaped like hearts. In fact, I’m not exactly sure that they even qualify as sequins – when you zoom in, they look raised like rhinestones. So, hot pink rhinestones that are alternately shaped like hearts and shards of glass. This shoe? Covered in ‘em. And also, it’s Victorian. Simultaneously. And maybe a little fetish-y. Yes, all of those things. At once.
For 99.9% of the globe’s population, this pair of booties is just way too much. For that last tenth of a percent (who are probably employed entirely as fashion editors, stylists and Daphne Guinness), however, these might be pretty brilliant with the right outfit. Of course, the right outfit for these shoes is probably so expensive that no one but those people can afford it anyway. Funny how fashion works like that sometimes. Buy through Luisa Via Roma for $5115.
