Let’s face it: If ever someone were going to go full lucite on us on a runway, it was going to be Donatella Versace. There’s no way it could have been anyone else, that’s just how Donatella rolls. Brands from Stuart Weitzman to Fendi have done partially lucite heels over the past few season, but no high end brand has reached both the heel heights and level of lucite that can be found in Versace Spring 2012.
I may be in the minority here, but I can’t help but respect these shoes. The Versace aesthetic has always resided on the trashy side of luxury, sometimes to great effect (and other times to not-so-great effect), but when things are clicking on all cylinders, it’s a brand that you can spot no matter whether it’s your style or not. These shoes are so incredibly Versace, so identifiably Donatella, that they have to be counted as a success.
