Christian Louboutin proves that loafers are the new oxfords

Christian Louboutin Dufferin Loafers, $1295 via Net-a-Porter
Looking back, it’s amazing how footwear options for women have exploded in just the past couple of years. First we saw the advent of the mega platform, and then chunky heels caught up with their stiletto counterparts, and now it’s also cool to wear non-platform shoes. And that’s just the heels – could you have seen yourself in oxfords, brogues or loafers five years ago?
I’m betting that most of us couldn’t. In fact, I remember seeing a pair of oxfords on Net-a-Porter around that time and wondering what woman would wear them. Sure enough, they were on the sale page quickly. But now oxfords are a regular part of the fashion industry’s shoe rotation, and loafers like the Christian Louboutin Dufferin are regarded as the big new thing.
For one, I’m excited that flats in particular have taken on such variety. I’m now medically required to wear them almost exclusively, and having a pair of haircalf leopard flats with studded bows in my arsenal would sure make me feel a lot better about that. Certainly a lot better than having another pair of ballet flats. But the number of loafers I’ve seen this year seem to indicate that they’re going to be just as popular as oxfords were last fall (and oxfords aren’t going anywhere, trust me), so it looks as though I’ll have a whole new shape to deplete my shoe budget. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $1295.
