Prada Mary Jane Boots, $2400 and $1500 via Neiman Marcus

Sometimes runway shoes translate well to real life and sometimes they don’t, but I’ve got high hopes for the python iteration of the Prada Mary Jane Boots, which were some of the most talked-about shoes of the Fall 2011 shoes and just arrived for pre-order via NeimanMarcus.com this week. The stretch suede version looks more like flesh and is therefore a little creepier, but I suppose I’m not necessarily opposed to a trip to the uncanny valley at the behest of Miuccia.

It’s the python versions of this design that really have my love, though, because they still accomplish the mission of creating a boot that looks like a leg wearing a Mary Jane without actually mimicking a leg too closely, which is what makes the stretch-suede boot look creepy. Plus, the texture and natural pattern of a python are not often found on footwear, but the added visual effect is wonderful. I hope I spot at least one person wearing these boots on the street this fall. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2400 or $1500, respectively.

i still can’t get on board with either of these boots, while i agree that the python is considerably less creepy, if i wanted to look like i was wearing a mary jane, i would wear the mary jane!

The boot on the right scares me! :shivers:

i agree that the phyton will sell better than the suede ones… but i bet these shoes will be some of the most photographed at editorials and fashion spreads coz they’re very high fashion..

maybe the suede ones i will wear when i grow tired of shaving my legs hahaha

Ahahaha! Good idea! I love it!

And I agree we will definitely be seeing these shoes in every fashion magazine. It’s just one of those fashion pieces. Although personally, I would never wear either of these. Was never fond of boots that tried to look like shoes.

I agree that the python one looks more attractive. But the nude suede one is also very interesting to look at.

Well, since I’m a black woman, I couldn’t actually wear the second pair. It wouldn’t look good against my skin tone. But even if it did, I found them creepy the first time I saw them. They are still creepy.
The first pair are okay, but I wouldn’t wear those either.

    love them both. Huge potential!

I agree with those who think they look creepy. If I want to wear a boot, I want it to look like I’m wearing a boot – not python leggings with a mary jane!

But that’s just me…call me conventional!

Since I have never liked Mary Jane’s. I think that is the reason they look so weird to me. They make me think of a horse.

The 2nd one looks like some mass murderer hacked a ladies leg off. Add a bit of ketchup and you have the opening scene of your very own horror movie.

LOL! Yes, I’m sure that’s exactly what Prada was going for … :P

Prada has taken on the challenge once again: how to snap out of a tricky and boring trend we suffer from, of “let’s wrap boots around our feet/ankles/legs/jeans/pants” and call it stylish?!! No…it needs to stop. The Prada Mary Jane Boot speaks to the purpose of haute couture = new perspective on HOW we wear what wear. Period.
