Kate Spade is a brand with a very specific identity: It makes girly things things that appeal to adult women, and it generally manages to do so without being too precious or saccharine. The company’s last few collections have been particularly successful, and Kate Spade Resort 2012 has debuted to keep the good times rolling.

And roll they do; although there are one or two missteps here that I’m sure you can identify without my help, the pumps and flats are feminine perfection in candy colored satin and patent (not to mention multihued glitter.) Shoes like that have always been Spade’s strong suit, and the company is only getting stronger.

The first one is def Alice in Wonderland…bleh. Matter of fact, they all look like that.

Keep repeating, “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home . . .”

I don’t get “pointy toe” shoes, for they truly do, and always have, looked like the shoes worn by the wicked witch in the Wizard of Oz. Good for stomping cockroaches in room corners – you bet. Comfortable – not ! Attractive to the opposite sex – hmm, can’t think of a guy who doesn’t look at these (1, 2 & 3) as weapons. I think these are the antithesis of girly – much like conical Madonna-insspired bustiers, or Lady Gaga pointy shoulder pads. Girls should have CURVES, not pointy angles. IMHO.

I’m old enough to still be paying for the last incarnation of pointy-toe shoes, and I won’t ever go there again. The other shoes in this collection, though, are really wonderfufl and I’d be happy with any of them.
