Did you wear anklets as a kid? I thought anklets were the coolest thing ever. I constantly had something tied or clipped around my ankle from the time I was nine until approximately 2001, and often those anklets were of my own braided or beaded design, thankyouverymuch. I had a really cool (we’re using the word “cool” loosely here) plastic box that was meant to hold fishing lures, but it held beads and thread and all kinds of craft store miscellany from which I could choose to decorate my ankles.

I grew out of that phase a decade ago, but that doesn’t mean I can’t still appreciate a little bit of ankle jewelry like that provided by the Chloe Metal and Leather Sandals. My suspiciousness over metal shoe straps is well-documented, though, so let’s explore whether or not these shoes are likely to make you bleed.

Sadly, the answer to that question is “probably.” I was really hoped that Chloe would line the inside of the leather straps with leather to make them a bit softer on the ankle, but no such luck. Since the structure of the shoe puts a major functional stress point right where the metal sits, I just can’t recommend these shoes in good conscience. I do like the idea, though, and hope that somewhere out there sits my perfect pair of shoes, complete with ankle jewelry. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $645.

The ankle bracelet looks to be the only thing holding these sandals on the foot. I don’t think a toe ring is substantial enough for the job.

What are the dimensions on that anklet? It looks extremely small.

I really like the idea of the shoe. But hey, the anklet looks really uncomfortable.

That’s insane! Just looking at those sandals makes my ankles hurt. How could they not be lined with leather?
