Now that we’ve made it past Memorial Day, it’s really time to talk about summer fashion in earnest. Anyone that’s ever lived in a warm climate knows that the challenges of summer dressing are unique, and shoes and accessories don’t get a pass just because they don’t cover vast swaths of skin. In fact, I’m probably more careful about picking shoes for summer than for any other season.

There’s just something so exhausting about hot weather that makes me want to put my heels and platforms away until after Labor Day has safely come and gone. Heels are work, no matter what anyone says, and I just don’t feel like doing work when it’s already 95 degree and humid outside. For that reason, shoes like the Loeffler Randall Carlie Mignon Twist Sandals are a total godsend.

These sandals aren’t entirely flat, but their heel is so low that you likely won’t even notice it after walking for a few minutes. The great part, though, is that they have all the personality and detail of an elaborate platform. The multicolor leather is very big in color trends right now, and the twisted cording gives the shoe a lot of visual interest while still remaining totally summer-appropriate. I’ll take two pairs, please. Buy through ShopBop for $227.

I’m more of a flip flop girl! These are crazy looking!!

  • jill

these r a bit busy for me but i LOVE this designer(Purchased boots AND sandals from them!)…..but the shoes tend to run a half size BIG on me,Just a heads up!

  • Chris

These are very fabulous shoes and I love them. And I love stylish flats. :-)

  • Kimberly

Those are kind of bizarre, but I do like that there is a little bit of heel!

  • Flora

    That’s crazy!

  • Brenda C

They’re cool but I’d have to see them on myself first.

  • Laureen

I think the combination of all the straps and the print is a bit too much.

  • Michaela

These are fun! Hope they’re comfortable as well…

  • Ashley

These are super cute… But I wonder if they wouldn’t cut some of us off at the ankle? I feel like if you have athletic calves at all, these might give you a bit of a Cankle Situation.

  • jetsetgo!

These are so cute! LR does some sweet sandals!

  • Michelle

I agree with Laureen, too much going on. The color is a little off putting too.

  • mochababe73

They’re okay, but with my legs, I couldn’t wear them. They are athletic and short. Not a good combination.

  • frannita

As I rarely wear heels and prefer flats, these are a nice option for me!

  • Anita

That’s a lot of print going on. I love this type of shoe, but the print is a bit much.

  • 19yearslater

I love these. I didn’t even notice the way the cording made up the shoes until I saw the larger picture. The colors are nice, the ankle coverage is interesting, and they are breathable. I can’t even think about wearing shoes that cover my feet in upper-eighties to nineties weather.

  • sara

these shoes make me apprehensive. i worry about cutting my legs off with ankle strap shoes, esp with such a thick band. i feel like it makes my short height (and therefore short legs) appear even smaller…and now chunky because it takes way my ankle

  • LuluMakeup25

@sara I completely agree with you. As a short gal [4'11" on a good day ;-) ] i feel these would make me look kind of stumpy. At least there are plenty of shoes out there to choose from!

  • Leona

Ok, I’ll be the first to admit – I don;t like these at all… not even a little.

  • tadpolenyc

i like the style, but not so much the color and pattern.

  • Tiffany

Really cute…but I am afraid the strap around..would hurt my ankle!

  • Andrea

these are too busy looking for me

  • indi3r4

    i’m in love!!

  • Jane

I really love these I am a huge fan of flats. I can wear them without all that foot pain that comes with wearing heels. I could see myself wearing these flats with so many different outfits. They have the sexy quality that usually only comes along with a 5 inch heel attached. The price isn’t too bad either.

  • Nettie

I love it! But with a different color, please.

  • Hannah R.

I loveloveLOVE these shoes. I noticed a bunch of people above said they weren’t completely in love with them which i can understand because they’re a little crazy – but i think crazy is a good thing! :D

  • Mama Laura

    Nooooo thanks.

  • Michelle

The pattern’s kind of too bold for my taste, as muted as the colors are. I also wonder how they would look on the foot…the small heel is definitely a plus though! I wonder what the story is behind the name!

  • Beth S.

These are GORGY! So edgy, without being completely unwearable. I don’t do heels well, even though I am short(-ish,) so a sexy, cool pair of flats is tres magnifique!

  • Gaby Pananda

everytime i read talkshoe article, i always feel there’s no enough shoes that i have to buy.
    and this one…!!!!
gosh i just wanna take this shoes out of my netbook screen.
    can’t stop this feeling….!!!!

  • Yoyo

These are reminiscent of a python… a bit too crazy for me.

  • Haylee

The design on these is amazing. I love them!

  • Kym

Shopbop actually has the same shoe in a different color on the site that I like even better. Not sure about the super wide ankle strap, though. Might not be too flattering on the leg.

  • hazel

Ugh I hate these, they just remind me of bugs for some reason!

  • Vera

Hmmm, these are…interesting. Looks plasticy and like licorice.

  • Emily

I love the design of the shoe, but I’m not a fan of the color at all.

  • Alyssa

    Too plastic looking…

  • Miss.Cherie

These are a little too much for me and the ankle straps would cut off my leg length. But I think they are still pretty cool! but not for me as I am more chic than boho chic ;P

  • Ashley

These are a bit bizzare…but beautiful nonetheless. I think they would look great with a really simple outfit.

  • Jen

I own these, but in a light gold color (just one color, no pattern). I LOVE them. You cannot imagine how well made these are! The leather is so buttery soft, you won’t have sore feet anymore. Worth every penny, and in other colors/combos SO pretty.

  • Sakyie

I live in Florida, and flats & flip flops are essential for summer here. I’ve only recently grown to love Loeffler Randall shoes, they have a lot of fun quirky designs. This shoe in particular, I’d rock it in a solid colour.

  • Michele

This sandal looks pretty cool, although I’m sure it looks even better on the foot. The twist detail and colors are really cute. It has a hint of that tribal trend without being totally overt about it. It’s something to wear summer after summer. BTW, I’m still trying to get over the fact that it’s leather, not fabric!

  • Treselle

A little too much for me!

  • faith24

gosh, these scare me actually. i do not like flats but these one look like alligators on a foot for some reason

  • Kel

I like the ankle part, not so sure about the rest of it. I’d need to see modeling pics!

  • Sherry

    Love these shoes

  • arianne

these are so so cute…perfect for a summer BBQ!

  • mikoism

ummmm im sorry, i really need to see how these are styled…in MANY outfits. cant get behind these at all!

  • Sarah S.

I really dislike these! They look like a bunch of garden snakes wrapped around your ankles.

  • sharon

This has really interesting pattern and it’s really considerate of comfort and style. This is something I probably wouldn’t purchase for myself but I wouldn’t dislike them if someone had gifted me the shoes. To me these shoes would better fit those warm summer nights because saturation and lighter colors seem to represent summer day better.

  • Zura

Love this shoes, something different with the knot and the pattern, looks comfortable to me. Summer 2010, I’m more inclined towards this color bright green, yellow.

  • fsc

hmm this looks really interesting but its not really appealing to me

  • BLynnT

I don’t really think these are for me. Being on the petite side, I’m always skeptical of shoes with anything around the ankle that will make me look short and perhaps a bit wider.

  • Shelly

I luv them, there different. When it comes to fashion especially with summer, the objective is to be different, take a chance. These would be perfect with a pair of light colored denim jeans that stop just before the ankle and a tank top. Simple! the idea is not to take away from the shoe to much.

  • erg

I do not care for the style of these at all, but they may be more attractive on the feet.

  • Katrina

eeek… these shoes are just wrong.

  • Ashley

LOVE these! I wonder if I could pull them off.

  • Sarah Hirsch

Kind of a strange pattern and I don’t love the color combo. I’ve seen this style in more appealing colors.

  • Adrienne zedella

look comfy, but too weird for me

  • jo

…like the style but the color……… green..

  • quimerula

They look a bit weird and plastic…

  • Dezynrbaglaydee

    dont like these

  • nicole

i really dont like the color or style, seems like too much is wrapped around my ankle

  • Kelly

    No thank you

  • Chelsea Clark

As I always say, “ew, no.”

  • Francine

These shoes remind me of Bali Indonesia

  • ter garney

Craaaaaazy! “Go green” takes on a new meaning!
