Is it just me, or are shoe designers suddenly expecting us to lace up all kinds of shoes that shouldn’t really need to be tied? I think that it’s likely an offshoot of the menswear/oxford trend that’s all over shoes right now, but it seems that more and more shoes are getting laces of various materials and functions.

The Louis Vuitton Hug Me! Sandal is the French brand’s latest entry to the trend, and it’s at least moderately successful. The purple-and-brown color scheme is a bit bland because suede tends to mute almost any color, but the shades work nicely together anyway. What’s really bothering me, though, is the heel – why isn’t it taller?

The shoe has a bit of a platform, so I’m not sure why the heel only measures 3.5 inches in height – most luxury shoe buyers want heels higher than that. When combined with the prominent laces and suede, I think that the shoe comes off a bit too casual – if the heel was bumped up a bit (even if the platform was also made larger to compensate), the shoe would seem more special, and likely more high end. I’ve been a great fan of Vuitton’s shoes in the past, but I think this one misses the mark. Buy through Vuitton.com for $805.

They definitley look a lot taller than 3.5″!!

  • Flora

    They’re dreamyyy! love the color!

  • Laureen

Very cute! Love the color and I’m a sucker for ribbon.

  • Michelle

Interesting ribbon style. I actually love it! Great texture to it.

  • LuluMakeup25

The ribbon detail seems kind of interesting…

  • Jane

Sorry I think they are boring and ugly.

  • StilettoQueenbe

LOVE the purple color, not crazy about the ribbon part.

  • Mama Laura

Rework the bow, and I think they’d be way hotter.

  • Yoyo

I agree that these would be way cuter if they were just a bit taller… The platform with the short heel looks awkward.

  • Emily

I think these are cute. I think the heel could be taller, but the short heel lends to a more relaxed vibe, which is something that isn’t often given off in higher-end shoes.

  • kelly

LOVE LOVE LOVE…..i would kill for these shoes!

  • Miss.Cherie

I really like them! I would definitely wear them around the city. But I am not so sure I would wear them to anything super snazzy. I guess it comes down to the price and if you think they are worth it or not. :) And I think the bow is gorgeous and on-trend, without it they would be cheapened.

  • Haylee

Oh my amazing! Anything with bows and/or Louis Vuitton you can sign me up for!

  • Treselle

I’d like it without the bow.

  • faith24

hot! i love the feminine touch like that

  • fsc

id like it better if the heel was a bit higher, and i agree that it looks a bit casual

  • sharon

I don’t mind the look or height but maybe make the heel a wee bit thicker. Without the bow the pair of shoes would just look ordinary, a lot of brands have that style. I actually like the bow, I like the look of bows in general, but maybe change the material and size. The material doesn’t look high end, it looks like cotton or some other in expensive material. I especially care about quality of material. Silk would have soften the entire look and gave it a more feminine overall look.

  • mikoism

its just okay, nothing special. could easily be a steve madden shoe.

  • erg

I like everything about these except the bow.

  • Terri

I disagree these are gorgeous! I think they would look great with the menswear look. I can see them with a pinstripe or houndstooth outfit. Life is about balance and variety. Not every shoe needs to be 5-6″. As a shorter person I tend towards higher heel shoes but sometimes a higher heel doesn’t give an outfit balance.

  • Katrina

errrr.. doesn’t look like a vuitton for me.

  • SeleneK

I actually really love these :-) I have a thing for bows, and they look great! Personally, I don’t like wearing SUPER high heels, so these would be perfect. The casualness DOES make it special, I think, because you could wear it more often than you would a really dressy shoe.

  • Sarah Hirsch

Ooh, I love that tie. I do embrace this shoe (I won’t be buying it because of the cost, but I will love it from afar.)

  • jo

    BEAUTIFUL! crazy expensive

  • Typhanie

I really like them, they’re different, but they don’t look like only 3.5 inch heels

  • quimerula

They are so lovely that I forgive the mid-heel.

  • Dezynrbaglaydee

    oh i like these!

  • nicole

extremely pretty but i dont like the color

  • Kelly

    Omg, these are gorgeous!

  • Francine

I love anything with a bow on it. I love it

  • Jacq

Pretty shoes! Love the color and materials. Looks comfy for such a high shoe

  • Chelsea Clark

I love these shoes! And having knee problems usually means I can’t wear very high heels and I can’t wear them for very long, so these would be perfect for me, now if I could only afford the price tag :P
