I tried on the Louboutin Super Platforms and lived to tell about it
by Amanda Mull
I woke up Saturday morning with only one thing on my mind: new shoes. I’m normally a pretty circumspect and conservative shoe purchaser after ending up with so many pairs that I love to look at but never wear, so a feeling like that doesn’t come often and I felt the need to go out and indulge it. And somehow, through a couple of twists of fate, I ended up trying to stumble across a boutique in a pair of zebra-print Christian Louboutin Daffodile Pumps.
I only had the shoes on my feet for a few moments, but the experience made me all the more awestruck by how many celebrities spend every day of their lives hoofing around in shoes like these. If I had to walk through the airport in these Louboutins, I’d miss my flight.
It wasn’t just that the heel was high, although the heel is most certainly high. Because it’s just a pump without a strap, my feet very much wanted to flee the confines of the shoe, and having such a sizable front platform invariably adds weight to the front of the shoe that only made it easier for my feet to escape while taking a step. That isn’t necessarily Louboutin’s fault, but merely a harsh side effect of such a tall platform. Another side effect: the air was so thin on top of such tall shoes that I got a little dizzy when I stood up. No matter, the first thing I wanted to do was sit back down again anyway. These zebra print Daffodiles are exclusive to Jeffrey boutiques in Atlanta and New York, but you can get the black leather version via Christian Louboutin for $995, if you’re brave and not afraid of heights.
