The Look for Less: Louboutin vs. Boutique 9

As I’ve said before, it’s probably not fair to put any brand of relatively low-priced shoes toe-to-toe, both literally and figuratively, with a pair of Louboutins. In fact, there are very few brands of any price level that can really compete with the French footwear master, but since his shoes are not in everyone’s budget, sometimes we compare other brands to Louboutins anyway, fairness be damned. Today’s pair of unfortunate (by comparison) shoes are the Boutique 9 Daraye Studded Pumps, which reminded me immediately of the Christian Louboutin Lady Clou Studded Slingbacks.

I’ve already expressed my love for the Lady Clous as a possible wedding shoe for a bride with edgy taste, and it would be entirely possible for the Boutique 9 shoes to do similar duty if a $1200 budget for wedding shoes wasn’t in the cards. I wish that Boutique 9′s designers had done two things, though: Kept the lines of the design classic instead of going for a vintage look and paid more attention to the placement of the studs. If they had done those two things, this pair of shoes would be a much more suitable alternative.

I don’t like platforms so, for the sake of my feet and back, I would go with the Boutique 9. My only thing is that I wish that they had the spikes on the top.

I’m still not liking putting studs on such nice, classic, romantic shoes. Sometimes it works (see: Valentino), but this is not working.

The Boutique 9s look so cheap it’s not even funny. The shape, the studs, the bow…ughh. I wouldn’t bother compare it to a Louboutin, or any high-end shoe for that matter.

There is nothing wrong with buying a similar style. However, I draw the line when it’s a full on knock off. The Boutique 9′s aren’t crossing that line. Believe or not, I found a pair of the CL Lady Clou (the above Loub pair) on the website- http://www.bellaloub.com- where you buy bids and vie for super hot shoes. I actually won this pair in black! I am still super excited about this find, since they are sold out everywhere. Not to mention that I won them for WAYYY less than retail price.
