It takes some real inventiveness to make your average neutral closed-toe pump interesting. They’re usually workhorse shoes – they go with everything, offend no one, and bear the brunt of continual wear that prettier, more special shoes don’t have to endure. You wear them even when it’s raining and possibly when it’s snowing, if you’re really committed. (I am not.)
The Report Signature Calyer Platform Pumps somehow manage to accomplish the neat trick of being both a neutral, functional pair of shoes and a special pair of shoes, though, and they do so while giving your possibly sweaty workday feet a little bit of access to a nice breeze. And not only are they cute and modern, but they’re relatively well-priced on top of it.
This idea is so cool that I feel like it must have been done before in some capacity, but I’m having a hard time recalling any shoes that are similar enough to warrant mention. These shoes are like a very wearable cross between a pump and a sandal, but they’re still technically closed-toe if your office requires it (or if you simply prefer it). For me, though, the most important detail is the knife-edge sharpness of the leather cutouts; anything else would look sloppy. Buy through ShopBop for $265.
