Normally I can get behind anything that Comme des Garcons and its visionary creative director Rei Kawakubo might want to do, but I here I sit in front of the Comme des Garcons Dr. Martens Mary Janes, nothing if not confused.
Normally, a pair of Dr. Martens mary janes cost between $90-$110 depending on the specific style, according to the brand’s website. And these shoes here actually bare the branding of the British bootmakers, and yet their price is three times that of any similar shoe I can find on its site. So how exactly did Comme make these shoes worth three times their normal price?
Normally, I’d have an explanation at this point in the post, but…I got nothin’. Zilch. I can’t figure this one out. The buckle on this shoe appears to be a bit different than the one that Docs traditionally have, but other than that, they’re the same shoes with the same overriding aesthetic that we all know very well. As much as I love Comme and Dr. Martens separately, I won’t be participating in this overpriced collaboration. Buy through Saks for $330.
