When I first set my eyes on the Cole Haan Air Veronica Gladiator Sandals, my automatically assumed that they must be made by a trendy, modern, youth-targeted brand like Dolce Vita or Ash, or maybe even a more high-end designer like Ann Demeulemeester, whose footwear is known for dark leather and extremely clean lines. Cole Haan couldn’t have been further from my mind, and yet the brand perhaps best known for making your sensible and marginally stylish office shoes has me wanting to wear a pair of its sandals all summer. I feel strangely excited.

Not to cast aspersions on Cole Haan, because it certainly makes shoes which are appreciated by a wide audience of women who either can’t or won’t wear stilettos at every opportunity, but I didn’t expect the brand to come up with something that feels so decidedly young and casual. And not only that, but this sandal incorporates the Nike comfort technology that Cole Haan’s shoes are famous for, which means that they’ll likely be better for your feet than similarly priced casual weekend options from other brands.
