When I first set my eyes on the Cole Haan Air Veronica Gladiator Sandals, my automatically assumed that they must be made by a trendy, modern, youth-targeted brand like Dolce Vita or Ash, or maybe even a more high-end designer like Ann Demeulemeester, whose footwear is known for dark leather and extremely clean lines. Cole Haan couldn’t have been further from my mind, and yet the brand perhaps best known for making your sensible and marginally stylish office shoes has me wanting to wear a pair of its sandals all summer. I feel strangely excited.

Not to cast aspersions on Cole Haan, because it certainly makes shoes which are appreciated by a wide audience of women who either can’t or won’t wear stilettos at every opportunity, but I didn’t expect the brand to come up with something that feels so decidedly young and casual. And not only that, but this sandal incorporates the Nike comfort technology that Cole Haan’s shoes are famous for, which means that they’ll likely be better for your feet than similarly priced casual weekend options from other brands. I can’t wait to try them on. Buy through Saks for $128.

I’ll just admire them from afar on Russell Crowe.

ha ha , even Russel would go “Does my bum look big in these?”

Are you kidding me!? This shoe is uber fugly.

They’re not for me. I don’t think I like anything on the ankle when I wear sandals. I also don’t have enough summer outfits that would match with these.

Gladiators make your feet look wide. However, I like the way that they look in the picture.

Hm..modern, yes I totally agree with that. It looks ok here, but I can’t imagine it would look really nice on the foot. The slight heel is nice, but this shoe is not working for me.

I actually like these. If I were a girl, I would buy these for the style and the Nike Air technology. I love that Cole Haan does that. Although, I think only girls with skinny legs could pull these off.
