I’m not prone to unnecessary effusiveness, but I think that Giuseppe Zanotti’s great Resort and Spring 2011 shoes may be the sleeper story of the new year. Thick heels and oxfords and the return of the pointed toe may see more press ink spilled in their favor, but while all that’s been going on, Zanotti has been quietly turning out some of the most exquisite pieces of footwear on the luxury mass market.

The Giuseppe Zanotti Patent Leather V-Strap Pumps are just the latest example of the company’s new trajectory. Every woman needs a pair of sexy red shoes in her closet, and if you don’t already have some, maybe these could be yours. And really, even if you do already have a pair, these pumps are a worthy addition to your wardrobe.

These heels are probably best left to the most seasoned of stiletto-walkers because as far as support goes, they’re essentially mules; the strap is sexy and creates a wonderful line on the foot, but other than keeping the shoe on straight, it won’t provide much help. Something tells me that Zanotti fans will do just fine with this structure, and they’ll have the sexiest shoes at any party they may attend. Buy through Saks for $550.

Amanda, I’m so glad you can look at these shoes and call them mules, because essentially that’s what they are, support-wise. Maybe if you titghtened the buckle enough, they’d stay put. As much as I knock Zanotti’s designs, these are really cute. I love the simplicity of the strap and the sexiness of the red patent. Well done!

Ohh, these are great. Stilettos are not for me at all, but any woman who wears these will stop traffic.

That is one sexy shoe. I don’t wear high heels, but I appreciate the style.
