Try as I might, I’m not quite sure where to go with these preview pictures of some of the styles from Manolo Blahnik Spring 2011. We all know that Blahnik famously regards platforms as demode, which means that he has been on the outs with the rest of the fashion industry for a couple of years now. But now that trend leaders like Prada are starting to swing back toward the pointed-toe, platformless pumps that made Blahnik famous during the heady days of Sex and the City, does the old master still have it?

These pictures don’t go a long way toward answering that question. Although Blahnik has proved himself occasionally brilliant in the interim (who can forget the blue silk shoe from the first SATC move?), some of the flights of fantasy in these designs make me wish that someone as irreverent as Christian Louboutin or whimsical as Brian Atwood had been at the helm of this ship instead. Hopefully the entirety of the collection will outshine what we see here.

I love 1 and 4, although I’d rather see 1 in black, and 6 is cute. The rest are kind of meh.

I love when you do a collection analysis! I really like the edge of number 1. And as someone who embellishes shoes for a living, I appreciate the labor that went into number 7. But as for the rest of them:
2: So dated-looking and the color of the leather screams matron. Perhaps if done in patent, maybe there’d be a chance…maybe.
3: Probably one of the ugliest style shoes ever created. And to top if off with that tacky ornamentation of the vamp; needs to go! I’m DIYing a pair of Brian Atwood’s right now and I pulled the embellishment of the front of those too. It just looks fake and cheap.
4: While I do love vibrant shoes, there is just too much going on here. I can’t imagine it looking good on anyone’s feet.
5: The color combo is cute for Spring/Summer, but again, the shoe has weird shaping. I hate the front.
6: Looks like a costume shoe.
8: I don’t get this heel Blahnik keeps on doing; it looks poorly made. And the straps are just all over the place. Ugly, in my opinion.
9: As a sketch artist as well, these would be a pair of shoes that I’d draw and then scratch out because there’s no real balance.

Sorry for that analysis, but Manolo drives me crazy!

The best pair are the yellow stripes in my opinion. They remind me of Dr. Seuss in a good way.

I love the seventh shoes. The first one looks a little stripper-ish.
The other ones looks dated and like you would find them in a Goodwill Select.
