“Nubuck” is not a word that generally makes images of stylish women come to my mind, but ever since Yves Saint Laurent started using it several seasons ago, designers far and wide have employed it in ways both rustic and feminine. The material, which is like a hardier, more rustic version of suede, is having a bit of a renaissance.
Yves Saint Laurent’s nubuck Muse II bags were beautiful, but the Givenchy Nubuck Leather Bootes may be the suede-alternative’s best showing yet. These booties have just enough “lumberjack” style to make the design’s reference clever, but the execution is pure luxury.
At first I thought that perhaps these shoes were too detailed, but I think that’s why I like them. The only thing I would entertain changing would be the fringe across the vamp since the tassels provide plenty of that type of texture, but the shoes might lose their lush quality if too much was removed. I’m digging the slightly overloaded look, and I can’t think of a better version of the luxe work boot trend that I’ve seen anywhere. Buy through MyTheresa for $1433.
