When runway shows roll arounf, the brand I always look forward to is Chanel; the brand produces an interesting combination of elegance and zeitgeist every season. For instance, let’s take a short trip down memory lane. In the last couple of months, we saw the Spring 2014 Haute Couture show, where athletic sneakers were paired with exquisite one-of-a-kind gowns, and for the Fall 2014 collection, how can we forget about the Chanel-themed supermarket? You never know what the brand has in store, and for Chanel Couture Fall 2014, I was surprised to see flip-flops gracing the runway.
The overall theme of the show mixed 18th century detailing with modern silhouettes, like the very luxurious pairs of flip-flops worn on the runway. According to Footwear News, Laurence Dacade, footwear director of the brand, gave even the simplest flip-flop a touch of Chanel luxe with “signature chain straps and ribbon ankle wraps to minimize that aurally inelegant slapping sound.” After all, this is a couture show; the unmistakable sound of flip-flops can’t be heard on a Chanel runway.
