Christian Louboutin may own the title of Most Famous Soles in Footwear, but that doesn’t mean that other brands aren’t decking the bottoms of their shoes out in an attempt to give their designs 360-degree appeal. Cesare Paciotti has debuted lace soles for fall, but the glitter soles on the Rene Caovilla Crystal Ankle-Wrap Sandals are the latest to catch my attention.
Caovilla uses the signature glitter sole on all of his shoes, but they seem particularly appropriate for this dazzling pair of party footwear. If you’re going to go for all-over sparkle, you might as well really go for it.
I’ve never been the shy-and-retiring type, particularly when it comes to getting dressed for parties (I wore an ironic bright-red feather boa to my prom), and this is the sort of real estate usage that I appreciate in a shoe design. The sole has gone under-appreciated for two long, and particularly in high-heel situations, designers should spend as much time adorning it as the rest of the shoe. I don’t love the shape of the platform, but my love of multicolor rhinestones and all things shiny more than makes up for it. I’d love to see these as a counterintuitive wedding shoe. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2975.
