My opinion of Giuseppe Zanotti vacillates wildly. Last week, his bedazzled dollar-sign sandals made me see red, but thankfully, shoes from Zanotti’s lovely Pre-Spring and Spring 2011 collections have started to make their way to the internet for pre-order, and they are a huge, beautiful step in the right direction. Can the Giuseppe Zanotti Patent T-Strap Peep Toe be the shoe world’s next YSL Tribute? It wouldn’t surprise me at all. In fact, it might surprise me more if that didn’t happen.
This shoe has everything it needs to be a classic: a distinctive but functional shape, a sexy heel-and-platform combo, and clean lines that will lend themselves well to any number of re-imaginings and changes in color or material. I could see it in python, covered in rhinestones, or remade in furry leopard. All of those iterations would highlight the design’s exceptional structure and Old Hollywood feel, as much as I hate to use the term “Old Hollywood.” It simply can’t be avoided here, and pretty soon, I bet that none of us will be able to avoid these perfect little shoes, particularly at this price point. Buy through Saks for $595.
