It’s pretty safe to say when that brands as dissimilar as Yves Saint Laurent and Prada are both doing similar shoes, it’s a look to which you should pay attention. Both companies have recently released shoes that are half strappy sandal, half bootie and all stylish, so no matter whether you prefer 60s retro with the Yves Saint Laurent Palais Cutout Pumps or modern minimalism with the Prada Buckle Ankle Boots, you can make this style all your own. Personally? I’d pick Yves Saint Laurent’s version all day, every day.

Yves Saint Laurent Palais Cutout Pump, $1136 via Luisa Via Roma.

Prada Buckle Ankle Boots, $636 via Bluefly.

I absolutely love the color of the YSL shoe, but just don’t like the sole. Seems like someone stepped forward and hit the sole, shifting it way back! But that’s just me! :)

I’d wear the Prada boots in a heartbeat though! Love love love them!!!

I like the YSL better too, but I agree with Tamee about the platform. That type of platform always makes me think that the manufacturer made the heel too long and had to stick a wedge under the toe to make it balance.

Yes, I love the colour of the YSL and prefer it over the Prada. Although the strange shape of the platform is off-setting.

Forgive me but I think the Prada look is not quite so fresh (grey / suede / platform / buckles on booties ) – seen it all before in the past 2 years. I think it is time for this look to rest peacefully in the cheaper Jessica Simpson / Steve Madden’s versions.

Its so funny that you posted about these shoes because i just saw the YSL on some British wannabe celebrity in a mag and was wondering what they were. Have to say you just saved me some money Amanda …what the hell is going on with the YSL toe??? Can we rename this shoe “the bulge”…its like the toe decided to take a left at the traffic lights while the shoe kept on going straight. The Prada are a non starter for me. They look fine but not special enough to buy.

the only think I like about her look is the poppy

To be fair, this particular angle does make the toe of the YSLs look totally wonky. It’s not that pronounced in person – the structure is the same as all the other YSL Palais shoes floating around. Like these: http://www.talkshoes.com/1678/look-for-less-dont-step-on-my-blue-suede-shoes/
