I would have had no hesitation about the Burberry Mega Stud Platform Sandal, had it come out about a year ago. It would have seemed current and fresh, and I wouldn’t have been sick of studs yet by that point. I’m kind of sick of them now, but is this pair of shoes interesting enough to pass my test anyway? It might be.
On the one hand, the huge scale of these studs (and the use of rounded as well as pyramid shapes) makes them seem a tiny bit more current than their tiny, silver counterparts. Matte black is a color that should be used more often in fashion (so says me, anyway), and its use here is well-executed. At the same time, though, might they be a little too big?
This shoe’s studs are somewhere right on the line between “brilliantly large” and “sort of like a tumor,” but in the context of the shoe, I think they’re ok. A shoe’s finer details are often loss because of the necessity of wearing them on your feet, and this way, no casual onlooker will miss the fact that you still like studs. And if you do, these sandals are a great way to tell the world. Buy through Neiman Marcus for $750.
