Alexander McQueen gives us intricate carving in a wearable boot
by Amanda MullI was going to start this post by saying that I’m clearly in an Alexander McQueen mood lately, but let’s face it – my life is an Alexander McQueen mood. As such, let’s talk about the Alexander McQueen Floral-Engraved Leather Boots, because if a pair of shoes has deserved a conversation lately, it’s this one.
A few thing struck me immediately about this particular design, as opposed to the McQueen leather booties that we featured a few days ago. First, the heavy floral motif starkly reinforces what a great job Sarah Burton did with her first full McQueen collection, particularly the shoes. Spring’s footwear seems like a logical progression from designs like this one, and seeing the brand work through this new natural influence will likely be breathtaking.
The second thing that struck me was how much McQueen doesn’t cut corners. Most brands would have done a carved heel and platform and left the underside of the shoe alone, but the carving on this boot wraps all the way underneath to create a much more stunning visual. If I had these shoes, I’d walk backwards just so everyone could see it. For the price, I’d certainly want the maximum effect possible. Buy through Net-a-Porter for $4195.
