Yes, you read that correctly: a supermarket. If you thought the backdrop of the Chanel Haute Couture Spring 2014 show was glamorous, then you haven’t seen anything yet. I woke this morning to an Instagram frenzy of every editor and fashion insider you could think of going crazy over Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Supermarket, and all in good reason. The maze of aisles, which models shopped their way through, was filled with shelves of Chanel-branded goods.
Also like the Haute Couture show, the Fall 2014 collection consisted of sneakers in many variations. All of these sneakers were adorned with Chanel-trademark tweed, but some had more than others. The reason for that, of course, was that some of the sneakers just kept going, all the way up to the models’ knees. It’s hard to say whether or not these sneakers and sneaker-boots will be welcomed by Chanel fans, but it’s clear that the brand is framing a mindset that luxury can be comfortable and practical, and more importantly, that luxury can be delivered no matter what time of day and yes, even during that occasional trip to the supermarket.
