Fashion Week Shoes: Chanel Spring 2011

by

Chanel 14 176x200 Fashion Week Shoes: Chanel Spring 2011Chanel isn’t a brand that’s traditionally known as a foorwear powerhouse, but after convincing everyone on earth that clogs are a great idea for Spring 2010, it’s hard to deny that Karl Lagerfeld has massive influence on the shoes that all kinds of women have in their closets. If you weren’t a big fan of that collection, you may want to step away from Chanel Spring 2011 now, while you still have the opportunity.

On the other hand, if you like chunky heels and platforms, this might be just what the doctor ordered. The shoes mostly manifested in open-toe booties and strappy platforms, and other than a few exquisitely detailed specimens and some very wearable motorcycle boots, the footwear mostly fell flat. The show as a whole was great – inspired, even – but the the models’ feet were a low point, both literally and figuratively.

With the possible exception of those tweed motorcycle boots, those shoes have a serious case of the fugs. Yuck.

All of these would be great if it weren’t for the chunky bottoms! The slouchy boots, however, are wonderful.

Whats up with the orthopedic shoe trend??? I have never seen a worse chanel shoe collection in my life. Im actual quite glad coz i can spend the money on the bags which were fabulous instead. I have to disagree with you Amanda when you say that Chanel is not known as a footwear powerhouse…I think the origin of the ballerinas is a Chanel phenomenon. Plus Chanel have a very steady following of shoeaholics.

They do have a strong history, but they’ve been eclipsed in the past five years or so by a lot of other shoe brands. IMO, they’re known for bags and RTW before shoes with the average customer.

Yeah for sure RTW and bags before shoes. But before the Atwood/Louboutin etc bang Chanel were churning out great shoes that were more classic rather than seasonal. I mean when u buy a Chanel evening shoe with pearl heels or a ballerina or a flip flop with camelias they last ages. Because Chanel is timeless.

I really like the black motorcycle boots. But in all honesty, I couldn’t see myself wearing anything else. My flat feet could never take walking on what essentially looks like stacked 2X4s.
To be honest, as much as I like the motorcycle boots, I wouldn’t spend the money on them that Chanel is definitely going to charge. There are plenty of others that are going to have them with quality just as good. Only difference, no double Cs.

    barf. granny shoes.

  • Mash

This is the ugliest collection in Fashion Week, including Stella McCartney’s.
    And that’s saying something.

What in the world are these?! Ugh.. More Alexander McQueen Please!!!!!!!!

  • jucso

If those booties in silver and gold had wedge heels they would be acceptable. the flat sandal platforms are disgraceful! but the tweed motorcycle boots are a very nice twist on the chanel legacy
