If anyone out there was still dubious about the cyclical nature of trends after the fashion world’s recent jaunt through the 80s, the sudden resurgence of Doc Marten’s should put his or her incredulity to rest. Just like the hair bands and mall pop of the late 80s gave way to the grunge of the early 90s, fashion is now ready to relive the flannel and work-boot glory days of Nirvana and Alice in Chains.

Chief among the indicators that the transition has been made is the presence of the metallic pink Dr. Martens 1460 8-Eye Boots on Nordstrom’s website. When a huge natural retailer has started stocking shoes like these, it’s time to dust off your plaid shirts and rip your jeans, because this trend is here to stay for a while.

Clearly, metallic pink leather is an extreme example of the grunge onslaught that we’re about it get, but its presence makes me so happy that I can barely even explain. I was about eight years old during the height of grunge and I remember having a few plaid shirts and a pair of overalls of which I was very proud, but I didn’t really understand the root of the trend until I listened to “Nevermind” as a surly teenager. I always wished that I had gotten the opportunity to partake in the grunge trends, and I’m excited to do it the second time around. I’ll probably be picking up a black pair of Docs instead of the pink ones above, however. Buy through Nordstrom for $120.

I have a pair of Doc Martens mary-janes, but I may just pick up a pair of their boots too. I’ve always kinda wanted some but never had any.

I was a teenager during this time period, and I never wore Doc Martens. I didn’t get it then, and I definitely don’t get it now. I love the color, but I am waaaay to girly for combat boots.

I’m feeling the ones with roses, paired with tights and a dress. Grunge but still feminine!
