Dear UGG,

You and I have had a few good years together. I enjoyed your Classic Short Boots first as a college student, and then as a lazy blogger who doesn’t always get completely dressed every day. I know that people hate you, but I’ve tried to offer meek defenses when they talked smack and you weren’t around to respond. Your shoes are utilitarian and comfortable, and the simple ones really aren’t that ugly in muted tones like grey or black.

But now you’ve seen fit to create the UGG Australia Fringe Cardy Wool Boots, and I don’t think that I can take your side any longer. This footwear monstrosity can only be described as blasphemous against both god and fashion, and also maybe against my eyeballs. They kind of hurt, and I think these boots are to blame. I’ll send you the doctor bill.

The Cardy boots always seemed like kind of a bad idea in and of themselves (slushy winter weather + wool footwear = fail), but now that you’ve chosen to add fringe to the mix approximately two season after the trend had any sort of peak, I just can’t stomach our relationship anymore. I’m done with you, UGG Australia. Right after I buy a new pair of grey Classic Shorts to get me through the next winter or two. Buy through Saks for $140.

I saw these at Nordstrom and almost couldn’t believe that anyone thought they would be a good idea. Not only is fringe out of style, it never would have looked good on a sweater. Much less the sweater boot.

  • Laura

I’ve always liked UGG but this version is ridiculous. What were they thinking when they designed this boot? I totally agree, the original sweater boot is just wrong so this style is a total mess.

Amanda – I totally agree. That is one ugly boot. I’m glad I got my grey Bailey Button boots before they came out with this one. Horrid.

  • miko

    wow!!! full-on dreckitude, my friend.

  • mochababe73

I actually like this one, but the fringe is the reason why I wouldn’t buy it. I like the buttons on the side.
Of course, I live in TExas. We don’t have much need for boots.

  • Laureen

    Holy ugly.

I dont really mind these. I wouldnt buy them though because the fringe is a bit ott. I own 2 of the knit boots and to be honest if you live in a non slushy but coldish country i dont see why not. Everyone i know has the knit boots.

  • bootstrapperboy

I actually really like the rib knit but the fringe is…to quote @laureen “holy ugly”….ban it.

Oh wow.. I have been an uggs defender as well.. And I love the crochet cardy boots, but these are just god awful. I think the designer(s) for uggs are trying to do too much because some of them are getting just plain funny (in a painful, sad kind of way).
All I could do was shake my head when I first saw these…
