As a big lover of Giuseppe Zanotti’s creativity and edginess as a designer, I’ve been waiting not-so-patiently to see what he’d do with the return of the classic, pointed-toe, single-sole stiletto. Zanotti tends not to move too quickly to changes in shape trends, but now that the pump is firmly ensconced as the shoe of the day, the Giuseppe Zanotti Ester Pump has come around to remind us that the designer can put his spin on anything, no matter how simple.
Not only is this the first time I can remember Zanotti giving one of his shoes an actual name (instead of just “high-heel patent pump” or whatever), but the Ester is one of the straight-up sexiest shoes I’ve seen all year. Of course, that impression is helped by the fact that this version is rendered in cherry-red patent leather, but even in a more conservative material, the curvature of the shoe and the tapered heel and toe would make this design a stunner. I can’t wait to find out what kinds of treatments and embellishments this basic form will get over the next few seasons, but right now, you can get this particularly va-va-voom version for $650 via Bloomingdale’s.
